Interested in the correlation/timeline for anorexia vs cutting vs body modification (ink/piercing).

It seems like 20-30 year ago more girls were struggling with eating disorders. That shifted into piercing (especially tongue piercing in the early 2000's) and cutting (prevalent from 2005 onward), and only recently (past 10 years) surged into tattoos.

-based on what I have seen in my high school classrooms.

Thank you for this enlightening post. I am NOT inked and I have wondered for years now why all the ink on young people, especially women! So much of it is "random" and makes no sense to me. I was raised by a Greatest Generation father who told me that he regretted his tattoo that he got as a young man during WW II. I'm now 61 and I kept my promise to my dad that I would not get a tattoos. My Gen Z daughter doesn't like the look of them either nor does she like the piercings that so many people have.
