I second what you said about the the Little House series by Cherry Jones. Such good memories listening to those on long drives. Might I add the Great Brain series read by Ron McLarty. We’ve listened to the first two or three books in that series multiple times and love to quote little phrases from it. Sharing books together is such a joy. Also loved the Henry Huggins series read by Neal Patrick Harris.
My children spent their days listening to audio books! The article brings back lovely memories of these times. "Cheaper by the Dozen" by Frank Gilbreth was a favorite!
Cheaper by the Dozen was one of the first books I read in English (I came here at 6 and started first grade shortly thereafter). I actually wrote a letter to Ernestine Gilbreth Carey that year as pat of a 5th grade assignment and I told her how much I had enjoyed her books (she wrote them with her brother Frank). I also asked if she knew Michael Jackson, as I was a big fan of his and figured all celebrities knew each each other. To my delight (and horror) Ernestine wrote back, thanking me for my enthusiasm and telling me that she and Michael Jackson were not acquainted. I need to track down that note, I bet it is still in my parents' basement somewhere in a box.
Thank you for suggesting a print version. I have updated this post with a "View as PDF" button to facilitate printing. Thank you also for your paid subscription- it is very much appreciated! - Natalya
Yes! You can print by going to the 3 dots just above the main photo, and select "Open as PDF" and from there you can print! Let me know if you need a screenshot (can't post it here but can chat it to you!).
This is absolutely epic. Thank you. My 4-year old son has listened to Winnie the Pooh (Judy Dench, Sir Michael Hordern, et al) 5 times over. He loves the Thornton Burgess books, too. Thank you for curating a list so I can give him (and my older children) more options this summer.
Roald Dahl reading The Fantastic Mr. Fox has been a repeated favorite in our family!

Is there a way to print this list?

My absolute favorite is Jack Nicholson reading Kipling’s Just so Stories with terrific accompanying from the jazz master, Bobby McFerrin
Thanks, will add to the list!
Paddington read by Stephen Fry is absolutely delightful, too.
Thank you, will add to our list!
More coming over the next couple of weeks!
